You know all those little jobs that mount up around the house that you always put off doing? Well, this year we’ve been having ‘do-days’ which is basically a name we made up for a day that we have every couple of months to dedicate to doing all those pesky little jobs.
We had one of our little do-days last Sunday so I thought I’d share it with you because having these days every now and again has really helped us keep on top of things and if you’re anything like us then it might help you too.
And yes, I absolutely know that we should just do these little jobs as and when we realise they need doing. We would if they were urgent but because they’re the non-urgent kind of jobs that don’t need doing right away, we put them off.
Anyway, because I’m off work this week and Mr Frugal had last weekend off, we decided to make last Sunday one of our do-days. When I say ‘we‘ decided, I should point out that what I actually mean is that I decided and Mr Frugal very begrudgingly took part as he hates these days – they involve far too much effort for him to be fully on board but he gets that we need them to keep on top of things so he tries to keep his moaning to a minimum.
So Saturday night, with one eye on Celebrity X Factor (which I think may well be the last time we tune in due to the fact it seemed to last about three weeks rather than just two hours), we sat and wrote a list of all the little jobs that we knew needed doing.
This is what we came up with…
There were a couple of last-minute additions to the list when our fire alarm started beeping and Master Frugal’s bedside cabinet apparently just fell apart in his hand but even with those extra jobs we still managed to get everything on our list done and dusted by mid-afternoon with only one or two minor disagreements.
(By minor, I mean that we argued massively about the shower sealing job – him because he hated doing it and me because he made a total mess of it and I think it might be worse than it was when he started.)
I know this isn’t rocket science but I just thought you might like to see how we do things here – we’re absolute procrastinators here when it comes to jobs like this as there’s always something we’d rather be doing. Our do-days mean that even if things take longer to do, at least they get done. 😉
